Case History:
The following is a partial listing of the GTR's recent cases:
- We successfully defended a small pizza shop
owner against a large university which was trying
to construct a building and, effectively, put our client
out of business.
- We have been successful in a number of cases
where local school districts have failed to provide
proper education for educationally disabled students.
Our appearances before the Commissioner of Education
as well as the Superior Court have resulted in
these students getting the educational benefits that
they
were entitled to.
- We are currently involved in construction
of three related and complicated trusts in the
Superior Court. The time for these trusts to end and
to distribute
the money remaining in them has come and it is
impossible to determine which of many beneficiaries
are entitled
to receive those proceeds. This is a case of first
impression in Rhode Island that will undoubtedly
lead to new law.
- We have successfully represented three women
before the Human Rights Commission. Two have been
discriminated against based upon their ethnic background
and one
because she had cooperated with the State, and
as a result, was fired. We sought to have their
employer punished for his discrimination and violation
of
the
Rhode Island Whistle Blowers Act. After an extensive
